Parque La Libertad: A Historical Heart in Pereira

Parque La Libertad, located in the heart of Pereira, is more than just a park; it's a historical and cultural landmark. Originally named Plaza de la Paz, it was later known as Parque Cañarte, named in honor of the priest who officiated the blessing mass for the temple, a mass that was known as the founding mass of Pereira. The park eventually became known as Parque La Libertad, though the exact date of the name change is uncertain. In the early 20th century, the park was a hub of activity, hosting concerts by the municipal band in a kiosk at its center. It also served as a significant space for the labor movement. In 1957, artist Lucy Tejada created a mural titled 'Homage to the Students' in the park. Today, Parque La Libertad provides a place for visitors and locals to relax, stroll, and immerse themselves in the city's atmosphere. It offers a glimpse into Pereira's past while remaining a vibrant part of its present. The park is surrounded by local vendors selling regional snacks and treats, offering a taste of the local cuisine.
