Parque General Santander Travel Guide

Parque General Santander is the most important public space in Mocoa, Colombia, serving as a gathering point for public, recreational, and cultural events. Designed in 1936 by Dr. Córdoba, the plaza originally functioned as a marketplace for local farmers. A bronze bust of General Francisco de Paula Santander, the first president of Colombia, was erected in the plaza in 1940.The park is adorned with tall, mature African palms, adding to the landscape. The square is bordered by significant buildings, including the Mocoa City Hall, the Putumayo Governor's Office, and the Cathedral of San Miguel Arcángel. In the evenings, the park comes alive as locals stroll, enjoy ice cream or snacks, and socialize.While the park itself may not have many attractions for children, its open space allows for running and playing. However, it's important to note that the park is surrounded by main roads. Though some find the park lacking comfortable seating or cultural offerings , it remains a central point in Mocoa, surrounded by commerce, restaurants, and hotels.
