Discover more about Golden Gate Canyon State Park

Golden Gate Canyon State Park, a 12,119-acre haven in the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, beckons with diverse landscapes and a rich history. Established in 1960 as Colorado's second state park, it derives its name from the historic Golden Gate City, a community born during the 1859 Pikes Peak gold rush. The park's terrain ranges from high mountain meadows and lush streamside corridors to rocky peaks and dense forests, offering a variety of outdoor adventures. Over 35 miles of trails cater to hikers, bikers, and horseback riders. Popular trails include the Raccoon Trail, known for its aspen groves and access to Panorama Point, and the Mule Deer Trail, which winds through meadows and forests. In winter, the park transforms into a snowy playground for cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, and ice fishing. History buffs can explore remnants of the past, including the Tallman Ranch in Forgotten Valley and the Frazer Meadow, named after miner John Frazer. These sites offer glimpses into the lives of early settlers who farmed the land under the Homestead Act of the late 1800s. Panorama Point provides stunning views of over 100 miles of the Continental Divide. The park is also home to diverse wildlife, including elk, bighorn sheep, bobcats, and various bird species. Fishing is permitted in most streams and ponds, with regular stocking in the spring and summer. Whether you seek a challenging hike, a peaceful camping trip, or a scenic drive, Golden Gate Canyon State Park offers a refreshing escape into Colorado's natural beauty.
