Experience the thrill of climbing amidst the iconic granite spires and breathtaking scenery of Colorado's Cathedral Spires Park.
Cathedral Spires, located in Colorado, is a collection of granite spires and rock formations that have attracted climbers for decades. The area offers a variety of climbing options, from cragging to multi-pitch adventures, set against the scenic backdrop of the South Platte River.
Opening times, essentials, and a few local tips gathered into one calmer, easier-to-scan planning section.
Driving
To reach Cathedral Spires, navigate to the parking area located off South Platte River Road. From Highway 285, turn south onto Foxton Road and follow the signs to Reynolds Park. Continue on Foxton Road through Reynolds Park and down to South Platte River Road. Turn right (west) onto South Platte River Road and drive approximately 2.5 miles to the parking lot and trailhead. Parking is free, but the lot is small and can fill up quickly, especially on weekends. Be careful when parking and crossing the highway to access the trailhead.
Hiking
From the parking lot, follow the main trail towards the spires. The approach to the climbing areas is a steep, approximately hour-long hike. The trails leading to climb sites are mostly steep but offer beautiful views. Be prepared for some scrambling and scaling of large boulders at the start of the hike. Ensure you are wearing appropriate footwear and carry sufficient water.
