Discover more about The Peoples’ Crossing

The Peoples' Crossing, nestled below the iconic Red Rocks formation in Boulder, Colorado, is more than just a park; it's a place where history and nature intertwine. Formerly known as Settler's Park, its renaming reflects a commitment to acknowledging and honoring the Indigenous peoples who have called this area home for centuries. The area is believed to be a historical crossroads for Indigenous peoples. In October 1858, Arapaho Chief Niwot is said to have confronted gold seekers here, asserting that they were on Indigenous land. The new name, developed with representatives from federally recognized American Indian Tribes, symbolizes inclusivity and recognition of the area's deep-rooted Indigenous history. Today, The Peoples' Crossing offers visitors a chance to connect with nature and enjoy breathtaking scenery. The park provides access to the Red Rocks Trail network, which winds through ochre-colored sandstone formations. From the trails, hikers can enjoy panoramic views of Boulder and the surrounding landscape. The park is also a popular spot for picnicking, dog walking and enjoying the outdoors.
