Getting There

  • Driving

    To reach the Native American Petroglyphs at Vogel Canyon from La Junta, drive south on CO Hwy 109 for 13 miles. Turn west (right) on County Road 802 and follow for 1.5 miles. Then, turn south (left) on Forest Service Road 505A and continue for 1.5 miles until you reach the parking lot for Vogel Canyon. There is no fee to park.

  • Hiking

    From the Vogel Canyon parking area, access the petroglyphs via the Canyon Trail. Hike down the sandstone rock drainage. A short spur trail will lead you to the petroglyph site at the base of the rock wall on your left. Be prepared for a short climb to reach the rock art area. Remember to stay on marked trails and avoid touching the petroglyphs.
