Bicycle
If you are starting from downtown Fort Collins, you can rent a bike from one of the local bike-sharing services like Fort Collins Bike Share. Begin your ride by heading east on Mountain Avenue until you reach College Avenue (US-287). Take a right onto College Avenue and head north. Continue on College Avenue until you reach CR 42C. Turn left onto CR 42C and the Maxwell Natural Area will be on your right. The total distance is approximately 6 miles.
Public Transit
From downtown Fort Collins, you can take the MAX Bus Rapid Transit line. Board the MAX at any of the downtown stops heading northbound. Depart at the Harmony transfer station. From there, transfer to the 'Poudre Express' bus which will take you toward the area of CR 42C. Get off at the nearest stop and walk south along CR 42C for about 0.5 miles to reach Maxwell Natural Area. Make sure to check the bus schedule for the most accurate arrival times.
Walking
If you are located near the Cache la Poudre River, you can walk to Maxwell Natural Area. Start at the river trail and head south until you reach the intersection with CR 42C. Cross the road and continue walking east on CR 42C until you reach the entrance of Maxwell Natural Area. This route is approximately 4 miles and will take you through scenic areas along the river.
