Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car from downtown Gunnison, start on US-50 E. Drive approximately 4 miles until you reach the intersection with CO-135 N. Turn left onto CO-135 N and continue for about 5 miles. Look for F227+56 on your right side, just past the turnoff for the Gunnison River. The quarry is located at the GPS coordinates 38.4504, -106.9869. There's no designated parking area, so please ensure you park safely along the road.

• Public Transportation

  If you're using public transportation, take the Gunnison Valley RTA bus service from downtown Gunnison to Crested Butte. You will need to disembark at the stop near the intersection of CO-135 and US-50, which is the closest drop-off point to the quarry. From there, it's about a 1.5-mile walk along CO-135 N to reach the quarry. Be mindful of traffic as you walk along the road, and plan your trip according to the bus schedule, as services may not run frequently.

• Bicycle

  For those who prefer cycling, you can rent a bike in Gunnison. Follow the same route as if you were driving: take US-50 E to CO-135 N. The ride is approximately 9 miles one way and offers beautiful views of the valley. Ensure you wear a helmet and follow all traffic rules. There are no bike lanes, so be cautious of vehicles. Bring plenty of water, and consider starting early in the day to avoid the afternoon heat.
