Walking
From the center of La Junta, start at the intersection of Main Street and 3rd Street. Head east on 3rd Street until you reach the intersection with Colorado Avenue. Turn left onto Colorado Avenue and continue for several blocks until you reach the end of the town. At the eastern edge, you will find a pathway leading to the outskirts of La Junta. Follow this path, which will eventually connect to a dirt road. Continue walking on this road; it will eventually lead you to the Vogel Canyon Picnic Area, located along Unnamed Road. Make sure to carry plenty of water, as it can be an extended walk.

If you have a bicycle, start from the La Junta City Park located at 2nd Street and Colorado Avenue. Head south on Colorado Avenue until you reach the intersection with US-50. Turn east on US-50 and follow the road, which will curve north. Look for a trailhead sign for Vogel Canyon Picnic Area along the highway. Turn left onto the dirt road leading to the picnic area. Be cautious of traffic and watch for signs indicating the entrance to the picnic area.
