    Discover more about Kenosha Pass

Kenosha Pass, situated in the Front Range of the Rocky Mountains, is a prominent mountain pass offering breathtaking views and a rich history. Traversed by US Highway 285, the pass provides a vital link between the North Fork South Platte River valley and the headwaters of the South Platte River in South Park. Historically, Kenosha Pass served as a crucial route for Ute tribes traveling to their hunting grounds. During the Pike's Peak Gold Rush in the 1860s, it became a major thoroughfare for prospectors seeking fortune in the South Park mining communities. The pass was widened to accommodate wagon traffic, and in 1879, the Denver, South Park and Pacific Railroad established a rail line across the pass, further solidifying its importance as a transportation corridor. Today, Kenosha Pass is a popular recreational destination. The Colorado Trail crosses the summit, providing access to extensive hiking and backpacking opportunities. The area is particularly renowned for its spectacular display of fall colors when the aspen trees transform into a sea of gold. Visitors can also enjoy camping, picnicking, and wildlife viewing. The Kenosha Pass Campground offers basic amenities and serves as a convenient base for exploring the surrounding Pike National Forest. Whether you're seeking panoramic vistas, a glimpse into Colorado's past, or an outdoor adventure, Kenosha Pass offers a memorable experience in the heart of the Rockies.
