Getting There

  • Driving

    From I-70, take Exit 190 at Vail Pass. Cross over the highway and turn onto Shrine Pass Road (Forest Service Road 709). Follow Shrine Pass Road, a dirt road, for approximately 2.3 miles to the parking area on the left. The road can be narrow and rocky, so an SUV or 4WD vehicle is recommended. Parking is free.

    From the Shrine Pass parking area, the Shrine Ridge Trailhead is located to the left of the metal fence at the end of the gravel driveway. Follow the trail as it skirts the edge of the forest, gradually descends to a pond, and then climbs through pine forest and open meadows to the Shrine Mountain Ridge.
