Taxi
From Moroni, hire a taxi to Mvouni village, the most common starting point for hikes to Mount Karthala. Negotiate the fare beforehand, as prices are not fixed. A one-way trip should cost approximately 1500-2500 KMF. From Mvouni, you'll need to arrange for a local guide to lead you to the summit.
Public Transport
From the main bus station in Moroni, take a taxi-brousse (shared minibus) towards Mutsamudu. The journey takes about 30-45 minutes. From Mutsamudu, you may need to take a local taxi or ask locals for directions to the Mount Karthala trailhead, as public transport does not go directly there. Confirm with the taxi driver that they understand your destination. The taxi-brousse fare is approximately 500 KMF.
