If you have rented a car or are using a private vehicle, start from Moroni, the capital of Grand Comore. Head southeast on the N1 road towards Moutsamoudou. Continue on the N1 for approximately 24 kilometers until you reach the junction for the road to Mount Karthala, which is well-marked. Turn left onto the road that leads to the mountain. The drive will take about 45 minutes to an hour depending on traffic. Make sure to have some water and snacks, as facilities are limited.

From Moroni, you can take a shared taxi-brousse (minibus) heading towards Moutsamoudou. The fare is usually around 1,000 to 2,000 Comorian francs. Once you reach Moutsamoudou, you will need to take a taxi or find a local guide who can take you to the foot of Mount Karthala. The local guides can often be found near the taxi-brousse station. Agree on a fare beforehand, which should be around 5,000 to 10,000 Comorian francs depending on the distance.
