Great River Park, located on the East Hartford side of the Connecticut River, is a revitalized space offering a blend of recreation, art, and scenic views. Stretching along the river adjacent to East River Drive, the park provides a welcome escape from the urban environment.The park features a paved and lighted Riverwalk that extends for nearly two miles, offering picturesque vistas of the river and the Hartford skyline. The park also includes a boat launch, picnic tables, fishing access, and a unique collection of sculpture art.Great River Park is part of the Riverfront Recapture project, an effort that began in the 1980s to reconnect the cities of Hartford and East Hartford to the Connecticut River. Once separated from the river by highways and industrial development, the area has been transformed into a valuable public space. The park is located entirely within the 100-year floodplain and features a design that integrates with the natural environment.
