Getting There

  • Driving

    From Route 9 North or South, take exit 6 or 7 and follow Route 148 and park signs to Gillette Castle State Park. The drive into the park offers views of the castle as you approach the main parking lot. Parking is free. From the parking lot, the Visitor Center is a short walk away.

  • Ferry

    During warmer months, you can take the Chester-Hadlyme Ferry across the Connecticut River. From the ferry landing on the Hadlyme side, there is a satellite parking lot. From there, it's a walk up the hill to the castle and visitor center. The ferry fee is cash only. As of July 2025, the fee is $6 for a car and driver, and $2 for each additional passenger.

The visitor center also houses Gillette's restored locomotive. The visitor center offers access to the park's hiking trails, picnic areas, and scenic overlooks. Explore the grounds and discover the remnants of Gillette's narrow-gauge railroad, stone arch bridges, and wooded trestles. The Gillette Castle Visitor Center is open daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. between Memorial Day weekend and Labor Day. After Labor Day, it is open weekends only through Columbus Day. The grounds are open year-round from 8 a.m. until sunset.
