Discover more about Brooklyn Brewery

Founded in 1988 by Steve Hindy and Tom Potter, Brooklyn Brewery revitalized Brooklyn's brewing tradition, which had been dormant since the mid-20th century. Hindy, inspired by his homebrewing experiences in the Middle East, partnered with Potter to bring flavorful beer back to the borough. They enlisted graphic designer Milton Glaser, creator of the iconic "I Love New York" logo, to design the brewery's logo, giving him a stake in the company in return. Initially contract brewing at the Matt Brewing Company in Utica, New York, Brooklyn Brewery began operations at its current Williamsburg location in 1990 and opened its doors to the public in 1996. The brewery quickly became a neighborhood hub, drawing locals and tourists alike with its diverse beer selection and lively atmosphere. Brewmaster Garrett Oliver, who joined in 1994, has been instrumental in the brewery's success, earning a James Beard Award and elevating its reputation for quality and innovation. Today, Brooklyn Brewery offers a range of experiences, including guided tastings and events. While tours are temporarily paused due to relocation plans, the tasting room remains open, inviting visitors to sample a wide array of beers, from the classic Brooklyn Lager to seasonal and experimental brews. The brewery also hosts parties, fundraisers, live music, and trivia nights, fostering a strong sense of community.
