Discover more about Winter Garden

The Winter Garden at Brookfield Place, located at 230 Vesey Street, is a breathtaking architectural marvel and a vibrant hub in New York City's Financial District. This 10-story glass-vaulted pavilion, designed by Diana Balmori, stands as a testament to the city's resilience, having been meticulously rebuilt after being damaged in the September 11 attacks. Originally constructed in 1988 as part of the World Financial Center, the Winter Garden quickly became a beloved public space. Its reconstruction in 2002, attended by President George Bush, was a major step in revitalizing the World Trade Center area. The rebuilt atrium incorporated 2,000 panes of glass and 60,000 square feet of marble, restoring its grandeur. Sixteen 40-foot tall Washingtonia robusta palm trees, which grow about six inches per year and can reach over 80 feet, were replanted, creating a unique indoor oasis. These palms have become iconic, symbolizing resilience and rebirth. Today, the Winter Garden hosts a wide array of cultural events, from concerts and art exhibitions to community gatherings. It serves as a central gathering place for dining, shopping, and simply enjoying the atmosphere. The space is also a key transportation hub, connecting to the Oculus and providing access to multiple subway lines. With its striking views of the Hudson River and North Cove Marina, the Winter Garden offers a serene escape from the bustling city. The adjacent waterfront plaza features landscaped gardens and sculptures, enhancing the visitor experience.
