In 1973, Charles Hunter bequeathed the land to the town of West Hartford, with the stipulation that it be used for public education and recreation.Today, Westmoor Park features a diverse landscape, including forests, fields, wetlands, ponds, and gardens. A working farm allows visitors to observe and learn about various farm animals, such as cows, sheep, goats, chickens, and more. The park also boasts an arboretum with over 63 different species of trees. In 2024, Westmoor Park was designated as a Level II Arboretum.Visitors can explore the park's three miles of woodland trails, including a half-mile handicap-accessible trail. These trails wind through diverse habitats and past ponds and meadows. Westmoor Park offers various environmental programs and events throughout the year, focusing on horticulture, natural science, and agriculture.
