Discover more about Tallman Mountain State Park

Tallman Mountain State Park, nestled in Rockland County, New York, is a haven of natural beauty and recreational opportunities. Established in 1928, the park's origins lie in the preservation of the Hudson River Palisades, with expansions in the 1930s and 1940s adding to its current 687 acres. The park's landscape features wooded areas along the Palisades uplands, offering panoramic views of the Hudson River and the expansive Piermont Marsh, which is a part of the Hudson River National Estuarine Research Reserve. Visitors can explore over five miles of hiking trails, including segments of the Long Path and the Tallman Mountain Bike Path. These trails cater to various skill levels, from easy strolls to more challenging hikes. The park also provides a running track, tennis courts, and playing fields for sports enthusiasts. For those seeking relaxation, picnic areas are scattered throughout the park, offering scenic spots to enjoy a meal. Tallman Mountain State Park also has a rich history. In the early 20th century, part of the land was acquired from the Standard Trap Rock Company and later expanded with land that was once planned as an oil tank farm. The park's facilities were improved during the Great Depression by the Temporary Emergency Relief Administration, who constructed the swimming pool, recreation areas and picnic spots. Today, visitors can still see remnants of this history, blending natural beauty with historical significance.
