Driving
The most direct way to access Naugatuck State Forest is by car. From Route 8, take the appropriate exit for the block you wish to visit (West, East, Mt. Sanford, Quillinan Reservoir, or Great Hill). For the West Block, a common access point is via Route 42. Parking is available at designated lots, such as the lot at 360 Chestnut Tree Hill Road in Oxford. Parking is free. Be aware that some parking areas are small and may fill up quickly, especially on weekends.
Walking
If you are already in the vicinity of Naugatuck, Beacon Falls, or Oxford, you may be able to walk to certain trailheads. For example, from Veterans Memorial Park in Bethany, you can cross Route 42 to access the Naugatuck Trail. Be sure to consult a trail map and wear appropriate footwear, as some sections may involve road walking.
