Walking
If you are in downtown Stamford, head east on Main Street towards Atlantic Street. Continue straight until you reach the Stamford Train Station. From the station, take the Metro-North train towards New York City. Get off at Grand Central Terminal in Manhattan. Once you arrive at Grand Central, exit the station and head to 42nd Street. Take the 4, 5, 6, or S subway line downtown to 42nd Street-Union Square. Transfer to the L train at Union Square and take it to 1st Avenue. Exit the train and walk east on 1st Avenue until you reach East River Esplanade, which will be a scenic walk along the waterfront.

From Stamford, board a Metro-North train at Stamford Train Station bound for New York City. Disembark at Grand Central Terminal. At Grand Central, follow signs for the subway and take the 4, 5, 6 lines downtown to 42nd Street-Union Square. Transfer to the L train and head towards 1st Avenue. Exit the subway at 1st Avenue and walk east towards the East River. The esplanade will be located along the waterfront, providing beautiful views.
