Getting There

• Car

  If you're driving from anywhere in The Quiet Corner, head towards Washington Depot. A common starting point is from the center of Putnam, CT. Start by taking CT-44 W and merge onto I-395 S. Continue on I-395 S until you reach exit 30 for CT-6 W towards Danielson. Follow CT-6 W until it merges into CT-44 W again. Stay on CT-44 W until you reach Route 47. Turn right onto Route 47, which will take you into Washington Depot. Finally, turn left onto Tunnel Rd. Steep Rock Preserve will be on your left at 2 Tunnel Rd, Washington Depot, CT 06794. Look for parking areas along the road or designated lots.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, take a bus from Hartford to Washington Depot. The CT Transit buses operate this route. You will need to check the bus schedule as it may vary. Once you arrive at Washington Depot, you can either walk to Steep Rock Preserve (approximately 1 mile) or request a local taxi service to reach 2 Tunnel Rd. Be aware that taxis may incur additional costs, so confirm the fare before starting your trip.

• Bicycle

  If you're feeling adventurous, you can bike to Steep Rock Preserve. From the center of Litchfield, head south on CT-63 S. Then, take a left onto CT-47 into Washington Depot. Biking may take longer than driving, so ensure you have enough time, and always wear a helmet for safety. Be cautious of traffic along the roads.

• Walking

  If you are staying nearby in Washington Depot, you can walk to Steep Rock Preserve. From the center of town, head south on Route 47. After approximately a 20-minute walk, you will arrive at 2 Tunnel Rd. Be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring water for the journey.
