Car
If you are driving from the Central Pacific region, start by getting onto Route 34 (Costanera Sur) heading north. Continue on Route 34 until you reach the junction for Route 21, where you will turn off. Follow Route 21 towards Liberia, and then take the exit for Route 155. Continue on Route 155, which will lead you towards the town of Villareal. Once you reach Villareal, follow the signs to Playa Avellanas. The final stretch involves a dirt road that leads directly to the beach. Be cautious as some parts may be bumpy. Parking is available near the beach entrance, usually free of charge.
Public Transportation
To reach Playa Avellanas using public transportation, start by taking a bus from your location in the Central Pacific region to Liberia. Buses are available from major towns like Jacó or Quepos to Liberia, and the fare is typically around $5 to $10. Once in Liberia, you will need to switch to a local bus or taxi heading towards Tamarindo. The local bus costs about $2 and drops you off in Villareal. From Villareal, you can take a taxi or walk for about 15 minutes to reach Playa Avellanas. Taxi fares from Villareal to the beach are usually around $10.
