Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving from Manuel Antonio National Park, head south on the Costanera Sur Highway (Route 34) towards Uvita. Continue on this road for about 30 kilometers (approximately 45 minutes drive). Look for the signs indicating Uvita, and as you approach the town, keep an eye out for the turnoff to the beach at Playa Uvita. Once you arrive at Playa Uvita, you can park in the designated parking areas (note that there may be a small parking fee). From the parking area, walk towards the beach and follow the trails that lead you towards Cola de la ballena.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Cola de la ballena using public transportation, take a local bus from Manuel Antonio to Uvita. The bus ride takes around 1 hour and costs approximately $3-$4. Once you arrive in Uvita, disembark at the main bus stop. From there, you can either take a taxi (which may cost around $5-$10) to Playa Uvita or walk if you prefer (it’s about a 20-minute walk). Once at Playa Uvita, look for the trails leading to Cola de la ballena.

• Combination (Car and Walking)

  If you are in a rental car, drive to Uvita and park at the nearest access point for Cola de la ballena. After parking, you will need to walk along the beach to access the Cola de la ballena formation. Make sure to wear appropriate footwear as the beach can be rocky in places. The walk is scenic, and you can enjoy the views of the coastline along the way.
