Discover more about Don Lulos Nauyaca Waterfall

The Nauyaca Waterfalls, located in the South Pacific region of Costa Rica near Dominical and Uvita, are a stunning display of nature's power and beauty. The falls consist of two tiers: the upper falls plunge 45 meters into a small, rocky pool, while the lower falls cascade 20 meters down a series of steps into a larger, six-meter deep pool. The name 'Nauyaca' has a few origin stories. One belief is that the falls were named after the Nauyaca Serpent, or Fer-de-Lance pit viper, a common snake in the area. Another story tells of two lovers from rival clans, Nau and Yaca, who tragically committed suicide at the falls, giving the landmark its name. Visitors can enjoy swimming in the refreshing pools at the base of the falls, surrounded by lush jungle. For adventurous travelers, there are opportunities for cliff jumping into the lower pool. The falls are also a haven for photographers, with the picturesque scenery providing ample opportunities to capture stunning images. Hiking and horseback riding are popular activities, allowing visitors to explore the surrounding rainforest and spot local wildlife such as monkeys, toucans, and sloths. To access the falls, visitors must go through one of two tour companies: Don Lulo's Nauyaca Waterfalls or Nauyaca Waterfall Nature Park. Each company offers different experiences, including hiking, truck rides, and horseback riding. Don Lulo's is the original company, offering a more traditional experience, while Nauyaca Waterfall Nature Park provides access to the eastern side of the falls with options for a trolley ride.
