Getting There

  • Car

    If driving from Zadar, take the D8 coastal road towards Rovanjska. After passing through Rovanjska, turn onto Ul. Vrtlina. Continue for approximately 1 km until you reach Modrič Cave at Ul. Vrtlina 21. Parking is available nearby, but be aware of any restrictions. There are no tolls on this route. Parking near the cave is free but limited.

  • Public Transport

    From Zadar, take a bus to Rovanjska. Buses run several times a day. From the Rovanjska bus station, walk towards the coast and follow the road south along the D8 for about 1 km before turning left onto Ul. Vrtlina. Walk for approximately 1 km to reach Modrič Cave. A single bus fare from Zadar to Rovanjska costs approximately 30-50 HRK.

Modrič Cave, situated near Jasenice-Maslenica, approximately 35 km northeast of Zadar, offers a unique caving experience. Discovered in 1985 by speleologist Silvijo Legović, the cave stretches over 829 meters and stands out for its untouched natural beauty. What sets Modrič Cave apart is its commitment to preserving its original form. There are no concrete walkways, artificial lighting, or man-made barriers, allowing visitors to witness nature's artistry firsthand. The cave's interior features a constant temperature of 17°C. As you explore, you'll encounter narrow passages and spacious chambers filled with stalactites, stalagmites, and other unique formations that spark the imagination.Modrič Cave is also home to a variety of life, including blind crabs and spiders adapted to the darkness, as well as snails and occasional bats. Speleologists have uncovered fossil remains of a Bronze Age human, dating back over 4,000 years, along with ceramic artifacts and cave bear bones from the last Ice Age (15,000 to 20,000 years ago). Guided tours, lasting around two hours, provide visitors with helmets, coveralls, and lights to navigate the cave's natural obstacles.
