Dubrovnik Port, nestled in the scenic Gruž Bay, is more than just a transportation hub; it's the starting point for countless adventures in and around Dubrovnik. Known locally as Gruž Harbour, the port manages a high volume of passenger traffic, especially from cruise ships, serving as a vital link to the city's major attractions.
Historically, the port has evolved from a cargo and passenger facility to a specialized cruise port capable of hosting multiple large vessels simultaneously. Following significant damage during the Homeland War in 1991, the port underwent extensive renovations in 2009 to modernize and expand its facilities. Today, it features three terminals equipped with essential amenities such as visitor information, ATMs, currency exchange services, and dining options.
While Gruž Port handles most of the maritime traffic, Dubrovnik also has the Old Town Port, primarily used by smaller vessels and yachts, and Lokrum Island anchorage, which accommodates ships during peak season when Gruž is at capacity. From Dubrovnik Port, visitors can easily access the city's UNESCO-listed Old Town, explore nearby islands like Lokrum, and experience the rich cultural heritage of the region.

Getting There
Walking
From Dubrovnik Port to the Old City is approximately a 30 to 40-minute walk. Exit the port area and follow the main road towards the Old Town. The route is relatively straightforward, but can be hot during summer months. Consider using public transport or a taxi for a quicker, more comfortable journey.
Public Transport
To reach the Old Town from Dubrovnik Port via public transport, take bus number 1A, 1B, 3, or 6. The bus stop is a short walk from the port's exit. Purchase a ticket at a nearby kiosk for €1.73 or from the driver for €1.99. Validate your ticket upon boarding. The ride to Pile Gate, the main entrance to the Old Town, takes about 10-15 minutes, depending on traffic.
Taxi
Taxis are readily available outside Dubrovnik Port. A taxi ride to the Old Town takes approximately 7-10 minutes, depending on traffic. The fare ranges from €10 to €15. Confirm the price with the driver before starting your journey. Note that the Old Town is a car-free zone, so taxis will drop you off at Pile Gate or Ploče Gate.
Ferry to Lokrum Island
To get to Lokrum Island from Dubrovnik Port, take the local bus no 10 to Dubrovnik Cable Car Station and walk to the Old Port. Ferries to Lokrum Island depart from the Old Port. The ferry ride is about 15 minutes and costs €5. Ferries operate frequently during the tourist season, with the first ferry leaving around 9:00 AM and the last returning around 7:00 PM. Note that the ferry service typically does not run from December to March.
