Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Car
If you are traveling by car, you can start from the town of Delnice, which is a central location in Gorski Kotar. From Delnice, take the D3 road towards Rijeka. After approximately 10 kilometers, turn onto the D42 road towards Vrbovsko. Continue on D42 for about 20 kilometers until you reach the village of Podkilavac. Once in Podkilavac, follow the signs leading to Obruč. The final stretch involves driving on a forest road, which might not be well paved, so be cautious and ensure your vehicle is suitable for such conditions. Parking is available at the trailhead leading to Obruč (1376m).
Public Transportation
If you prefer public transportation, start by taking a bus from Rijeka or Zagreb to Delnice. Once in Delnice, check the local bus timetable for services to Vrbovsko. You may need to transfer buses in Vrbovsko to reach Podkilavac. Travel from Vrbovsko to Podkilavac may require a taxi or local shuttle services, as public transport options may be limited. Once you arrive in Podkilavac, you will need to walk or arrange for a taxi to the Obruč trailhead, as direct public transport may not be available. It's advisable to check the latest bus schedules in advance, as they can change.
Hiking
After reaching the trailhead from either your car or public transport, the hike to Obruč (1376m) begins. The hike is moderately challenging, and it typically takes about 1-2 hours to reach the summit, depending on your pace. Be sure to wear appropriate hiking gear, carry water and snacks, and consider the weather conditions.
