Komiža Castle: A Fortress of Fishing History

Komiža Castle, also known as Komuna, is a historic fortress located in Komiža on the island of Vis, Croatia. Built in 1585, the castle served as a crucial defense against frequent attacks by Turks and pirates. The construction was significantly funded by the fishermen of Komiža, highlighting the town's strong fishing industry. This is evidenced by an inscription from 1592 on the north wall.The castle's architecture features a square shape with sloping walls, designed for maritime defense. The north and west walls originally stood in the sea, equipped with bulky stone rings for mooring ships.
