Getting There

• Car

  If you're traveling by car, start from the nearest major city such as Pula, Rovinj, or Poreč. Take the D75 road towards Motovun. Follow the signs for Motovun, and as you approach, you will see signs directing you towards Barbacan. The drive will take approximately 30-45 minutes depending on your starting location. Once in Motovun, park in one of the designated parking areas. Note that parking can be limited, so it’s advisable to arrive early, especially during peak tourist season.

• Bus

  For those using public transportation, check the local bus schedules for a direct route to Motovun. Buses frequently depart from Pula, Rovinj, and Poreč. The journey typically takes about 1-1.5 hours. Upon arrival at the Motovun bus station, it's about a 15-20 minute walk uphill to reach Barbacan. Be prepared for a steep incline. Make sure to purchase your bus ticket in advance, and keep an eye on the bus schedules for your return trip.

• Taxi or Rideshare

  If you prefer a more direct route without the hassle of public transport, consider taking a taxi or using a rideshare service. This option is more expensive, with fares from nearby towns like Pula or Rovinj ranging from 30 to 50 euros. The advantage is a direct and comfortable ride to Barbacan in Motovun without the need to navigate public transport.

• Walking

  Once you reach Motovun, if you are staying nearby or have parked in a low-traffic area, walking is a pleasant way to explore the town. The scenic paths lead to Barbacan, where you can enjoy stunning views of the surrounding vineyards and countryside. Ensure you wear comfortable shoes as the terrain can be uneven, and the climb may be steep.
