  • Public Transport

    From Rijeka city center, the easiest way to reach Trsat Castle is by bus. Take bus line 2 or 8 from the Tržnica bus stop near Theatre Park. The ride takes approximately 25 minutes. A one-way ticket costs around €2, purchased directly from the driver. Get off at the last stop and walk 5 minutes on flat ground to Trsat Castle. Note that there are steps at Trsat Castle.

  • Walking

    If you're in Rijeka city center, you can walk to Trsat Castle. Start at Korzo, Rijeka's main promenade, and head towards Ulica Stara Vrata. Follow this street uphill; it leads directly to the castle. The walk takes about 30 minutes and offers beautiful city views. Alternatively, take the Petar Kružić stairs consisting of 561 steps from Tito Square. Be aware that the path can be steep in some areas, so wear comfortable shoes.

Thought to be located on the site of an ancient Illyrian and Roman fortress, the current castle was primarily constructed in the 13th century by the noble Frankopan family. It played a role in the Austro-Venetian War, and later, after falling into disrepair in the 17th century, it was renovated in the 19th century under the ownership of Field Marshal Laval Nugent.
