Premužićeva staza, often called the Premužić Trail, is a remarkable hiking path that winds through the Velebit mountain range, a designated Nature Park with two national parks, in Croatia. This 57-kilometer trail is celebrated as one of Croatia's most beautiful hiking routes, offering diverse landscapes and panoramic views.Constructed between 1930 and 1933, the trail is named after Ante Premužić, a forestry engineer who designed and oversaw its construction. His vision was to create a path accessible to all, not just experienced mountaineers, opening up the Velebit's beauty to a wider audience. The trail's construction is a masterpiece of dry-stone walling, blending seamlessly with the natural environment. In 2009, it was protected as a Croatian cultural asset of national importance.The trail starts at Zavižan mountain hut and ends at Baške Oštarije. The average width is 1.2 meters, with an average slope of 10%. The highest point is 1,630 meters above sea level. The entire trail typically takes three days to hike, but shorter sections can be enjoyed as day trips. Along the way, hikers encounter forests, meadows, rocky terrain, and breathtaking views of the Adriatic Sea. Mountain huts and shelters provide rest stops.
