Discover more about Roman Theater

Pula's Small Roman Theater, dating back to the 1st century AD, is a testament to the city's significant Roman history. Constructed during the reign of the Roman Empire, the theater was designed to entertain and to pass down Roman traditions to future generations. Though smaller than the Pula Arena, it could accommodate approximately 5,000 spectators, which was the entire population of Pula at the time. Located on the eastern slope of the central hill within the old city core, the theater's design incorporated the natural slope, a characteristic of Greek theaters. The structure was divided into a stage, proscene, orchestra, and cavea (viewing area). Over the centuries, much of the theater was dismantled for other construction projects. Today, visitors can still see the remains of the semicircular orchestra and parts of the stage. While not as grand as the Arena, the Small Roman Theater offers an intimate experience, blending history, culture, and natural beauty. From the theater, visitors can enjoy views of the city and the Adriatic Sea. The site provides a tangible link to Pula's Roman past, showcasing the city's deep roots in the Roman Empire.
