The Sea Organ (Morske Orgulje) is a captivating architectural sound art object located on Zadar's Riva, where the city meets the Adriatic Sea. Created by architect Nikola Bašić and opened to the public in 2005, the Sea Organ revitalized Zadar's waterfront, which had been left with a bland concrete facade after post-World War II reconstruction.The organ consists of a series of polyethylene tubes and a resonating cavity concealed beneath large marble steps that descend into the sea. As waves enter the tubes, they create air pressure that produces a series of random but harmonic sounds. The sounds vary depending on the tide, wave size, and weather conditions, creating a unique and ever-changing sonic experience.The Sea Organ is more than just a musical instrument; it's a symbol of Zadar's connection to the sea and a testament to innovative urban design.
