The church's construction began in 1725 by Jesuit monks on the foundations of the former Kasimpaša mosque, a relic from the Ottoman period. By 1734, the first Mass was held, though the church wasn't officially dedicated to Saint Michael until 1750 and fully completed by 1768. The church's architecture features a cross-vaulted nave, barrel-vaulted chapels, and a sanctuary. The design evolved during construction, transitioning from Early to High Baroque with the addition of side chapels by a Central European architect. The facade is adorned with two bell towers, a common element in Jesuit architecture. Inside the church, visitors can admire seven altars, each dedicated to different saints, including the main altar dedicated to St. Michael the Archangel.
