If you are starting from the Split Riva (the waterfront promenade), head towards the eastern end of the promenade. Look for the statue of Grgur Ninski, which is a famous landmark. From the statue, walk straight towards the Diocletian's Palace entrance - you will see the Golden Gate. Once you pass through the Golden Gate, continue straight into the main square (Peristil).
