Cyprian's Palace: A Medieval Gem in Split
Step through history at Split's Iron Gate, a continuously used Roman entrance to Diocletian's Palace, witnessing centuries of the city's vibrant life.
The Iron Gate, or 'Željezna vrata,' stands as one of the four principal Roman gates into Split's old town, originally Diocletian's Palace. Once a military entrance, it's the only gate continuously used since its construction, witnessing centuries of Split's transformations.

Walking
From the Riva promenade, walk west towards the heart of Diocletian's Palace. Pass through the palace complex, heading towards Narodni trg (People's Square). The Iron Gate is located on the western side of the Palace, a short walk from the square, marked by its ancient stone archway at Ul. Ispod ure.
Public Transport
Take any local bus that stops near the city center. Get off at a stop near the Riva (e.g., 'Poljana' or 'Trg Republike'). From there, walk into Diocletian's Palace and follow the walking directions to reach the Iron Gate. A single bus ticket costs around 11 HRK.
Taxi
From anywhere in Split, take a taxi to the entrance of Diocletian's Palace. Ask the driver to drop you off as close to the Riva as possible. From there, follow the walking directions to the Iron Gate. A short taxi ride within Split will likely cost between 60 HRK (for 5km) and 25 HRK (base fare) plus 14 HRK per km.
