Driving

From the Queen Juliana Bridge, follow signs towards Fort Nassau. The road leading up to the fort is narrow and winding. Parking is available near the fort entrance. Be cautious of pedestrians using the road for exercise. Parking is free.

Constructed in 1797, the fort was initially named Fort Republiek by the Dutch. However, its name changed to Fort George when the English invaded and took control in 1807. In 1816, when the Dutch regained control, it was renamed Fort Orange Nassau, eventually becoming known as Fort Nassau.While initially built for defense, the fort saw limited action, primarily serving a preventive function. In 1958, the Curaçao Foundation for the Preservation of Monuments took over, transforming it into a recreational and tourist attraction. Since 1959, Fort Nassau has housed a restaurant, offering visitors a chance to dine in a historical setting.Today, Fort Nassau offers a unique experience, blending historical significance with contemporary dining. The restaurant is known for its 'casual fine dining'. The fort also houses Harbor Control and a public viewing area. Visitors can explore the fort's grounds, taking in the panoramic views of Willemstad, including the Queen Emma Bridge and the harbor entrance.
