Discover more about Tugboat Beach

Tugboat Beach, nestled in Caracas Bay on Curaçao's southeastern coast, is a premier destination for snorkelers and divers. The beach is named after a small tugboat that sank just a few yards offshore, now lying in only 5 meters (15 feet) of water. Deliberately sunk in the 1980s to promote marine life, the wreck has transformed into a vibrant artificial reef, covered in colorful coral and sponges. The wreck is easily accessible from the shore, making it a popular spot for both novice and experienced snorkelers and divers. The crystal-clear waters offer excellent visibility, allowing visitors to observe a diverse array of marine life, including parrotfish, trumpetfish, angelfish, and sea turtles. Divers can explore the tugboat's interior, peering through windows and gaps to discover the various fish that have made it their home.Beyond the tugboat, the surrounding area offers additional attractions. A nearby vertical wall provides a habitat for hanging sponges and other marine creatures. The site also features an outplant of the Coral Restoration Foundation Curaçao, where cultivated coral has been planted. While the beach itself is rocky, a dive shop offers lounge chairs, snorkel gear rentals, and refreshments.
