Landhuis Jan Kok, also known as Jan Kock, Arriankok, and Zevenhuizen, is a former plantation house with a rich history dating back to the early 18th century. The original structure, built around 1705 by Adriaan Kock, suffered damage from fire, leading to its reconstruction in 1840 by Carel Zacharias de Haseth. Today, it stands as a beautifully preserved heritage building, offering visitors a unique blend of history and art.Overlooking the salt pans of Rif Sint Marie, the landhuis provides stunning views of the area's flamingo colonies. The plantation itself was once a thriving agricultural hub, later focusing on salt production in the 19th century. It's a place where the past comes alive, with remnants like the old slave bell serving as reminders of Curaçao's complex history.Since 2002, Landhuis Jan Kok has been home to the Nena Sanchez Gallery, displaying the colorful and expressive artwork of the late local artist. Her pieces, inspired by the island's vibrant hues, are exhibited throughout the landhuis and spill into the surrounding gardens, creating an open-air gallery.
