Landhuis Groot Davelaar: A Glimpse into Curaçao's Colonial Past

Landhuis Groot Davelaar, also known as Landhuis Davelaar or Landhuis Welgelegen, is a majestic former plantation house located in Willemstad, Curaçao. Built around 1865, it stands as a testament to the island's colonial architecture and rich history. The landhuis was constructed for Juan R. Blanch and designed by Antoine Martis. The architectural style showcases a blend of neoclassicism combined with Curaçaoan influences.The building features a central core with an octagonal design, surrounded by a gallery. The upper level consists of an octagonal room with an exterior balustrade. The facades of the gallery have curved openings separated by pilasters. A cistern, dating back to 1906, is located on the property. The name 'Groot Davelaar' is painted on the facade, making it the only landhuis on the ABC islands with its name displayed.Visitors can wander through the expansive grounds, capturing picturesque views and immersing themselves in the serene environment.
