The plantation, originally established in 1694, gained prominence in the 18th century as one of the island's most successful agricultural ventures. It primarily cultivated divi-divi fruits, kenepa fruits, watapana pods, potatoes, and melons. The estate later expanded into livestock farming, producing sheep wool.The landhuis itself dates back to 1830 and is distinguished by its yellow facade, red-tiled saddle roof, and eight dormers. The open galleries surrounding the house were designed to keep the interior cool. While the original slave bell is no longer present, the location where it once hung remains.Landhuis Knip is historically significant as the starting point of the major slave revolt of 1795, led by Tula.
