Getting There

  • Public Transport

    From the main bus terminals in Punda or Otrobanda, take a bus heading towards the west side of the island. Bus fares range from 2 to 5 ANG, and it's advisable to have exact change. Ask the driver to drop you off near the Curaçao Museum. From the bus stop, it's a short walk to the museum entrance.

  • Taxi

    Taxis are readily available at major hotels and tourist areas in Willemstad. A taxi ride from the city center to the Curaçao Museum will cost approximately 10-20 ANG. Confirm the fare with the driver before starting your journey.

  • Driving

    From Willemstad, follow the main roads towards Otrobanda. Continue past the Curaçao Medical Center. The Curaçao Museum is located on Van Leeuwenhoekstraat. Parking is available in front of the museum. Parking costs 1 ANG per hour from Monday to Saturday, between 8 AM and 6 PM.

The Curaçao Museum, or Curaçaosch Museum in Dutch and Museo di Kòrsou in Papiamentu, stands as the oldest museum in Curaçao, having opened its doors on March 7, 1948. Nestled in Willemstad, within the historic Otrobanda district, the museum resides in a beautifully preserved former military hospital, a monumental building dating back to 1853.The museum's collection showcases a wide array of cultural artifacts and artworks that span nearly 400 years of the island's history. Visitors can explore period rooms filled with antique furniture, musical instruments, and apothecary tools, offering a glimpse into the daily lives of Curaçaoans in centuries past. A highlight is the stained-glass map of the Caribbean created by artist W. Bogtman in 1939. The museum also features a traditional Curaçaoan kitchen.Beyond historical artifacts, the Curaçao Museum also celebrates the island's vibrant artistic community with an impressive collection of contemporary art. The museum grounds include a botanical garden showcasing trees and plants that are becoming rare on Curaçao, as well as a sculpture garden with statues of freedom fighters Luis Brion and Manuel Piar.In the basement, an exhibition displays the Amerindian history of Curaçao. Other unique exhibits include the locomotive of the first mining railway and the cockpit of the Snip, the first airplane to land in Curaçao from the Netherlands.
