Discover more about Boka Tabla

Boka Tabla, nestled within the Shete Boka National Park on the northern coast of Curaçao, is a dramatic testament to the power of nature. The name 'Boka Tabla' translates roughly to 'Table Inlet,' a fitting description for the flat-topped limestone cliffs that define this coastal landscape. Here, the relentless waves of the Caribbean Sea crash against the island's rugged shores, carving out caves and inlets that offer a breathtaking spectacle for visitors. Shete Boka National Park itself encompasses approximately 10 kilometers of Curaçao's wave-battered northern coastline. Established in 1994, the park's primary mission is to protect the island's sea turtle nesting sites. Three species of sea turtles, including the loggerhead, green, and hawksbill, find refuge on these shores, particularly during the nesting season from May to December. The Carmabi Foundation diligently monitors the beaches for turtle activity, ensuring the preservation of these endangered creatures. Boka Tabla is the most accessible and perhaps the most iconic site within Shete Boka National Park. Upon arrival, visitors are immediately greeted by the thunderous roar of the ocean. A short walk leads to a viewing platform perched directly above a large, partially submerged cave. From this vantage point, you can peer into the depths of the cavern and witness the raw power of the waves as they crash against the rocky walls. The experience is both exhilarating and humbling, a visceral reminder of nature's immense force. For a closer encounter, a series of steps carved into the rock descends into the mouth of the cave. Here, you can sit on the very edge and watch the surf roll in, feeling the spray of the ocean on your face. The acoustics within the cave are remarkable, amplifying the sound of the waves into a deafening roar. It's an experience that engages all the senses, leaving a lasting impression on those who dare to venture inside. Beyond the main cave, Boka Tabla offers a network of trails that wind along the limestone bluffs. These paths provide stunning panoramic views of Curaçao's rugged north coast. The landscape is stark and dramatic, with jagged rocks, crashing waves, and the endless expanse of the Caribbean Sea stretching out to the horizon. The trails are relatively easy to navigate, making them accessible to visitors of all ages and fitness levels.
