Manor Savonet Museum: A Window into Curaçao's Past

Originally built around 1662, the plantation's name may derive from the term 'Savanna' or the presence of the 'soap-tree'. Uniquely, even after the abolition of slavery in 1863, many formerly enslaved people continued to work at Savonet in exchange for land, allowing the plantation to function until the 1950s.
