Discover more about Landhuis Zeelandia

Landhuis Zeelandia, situated in Willemstad, is a beautifully preserved colonial home that dates back to the 18th century. Unlike many other landhuisen (country houses) on Curaçao, Zeelandia was not a plantation but rather a retreat for well-to-do townspeople. Completed in two phases during the second half of the 1700s, the oldest section features a cross-shaped pavilion oriented to capture the wind. The building's original entrance is on the west side, in the middle of the structure. Architecturally, Landhuis Zeelandia showcases the elegant lines and traditional Caribbean design characteristic of the era. The building has galleries with transverse extensions and 18th-century facades and dormers. While the interior may not always be accessible to the public, the exterior and grounds offer ample opportunities for exploration and photography. The surrounding gardens, filled with tropical flora, contribute to the tranquil atmosphere. Historically, Landhuis Zeelandia has witnessed centuries of change, serving various purposes, including a military outpost. Today, it stands as a testament to Curaçao's rich heritage and offers visitors a chance to connect with the island's past.
