Public Bus
From central Willemstad, head to the main bus terminal located at the Otrobanda side. Look for the bus heading to Jan Thiel. The ride should take around 30 minutes. Once you arrive at the Jan Thiel stop, disembark and head towards Caracasbaai. Follow the road signs directing you towards the beach. Fort Beekenburg is located near the Caracasbaai old docks, just a short 15-minute walk from the bus stop.
Bicycle Rental
If you prefer cycling, rent a bicycle from one of the rental shops in Willemstad. Head southeast towards the Caracasbaai area. Follow the main roads, keeping an eye for directional signs towards Jan Thiel. The route is fairly flat and should take you about 25 minutes. Upon reaching the Caracasbaai old docks, you will find Fort Beekenburg nearby.
Walking
If you are up for a longer walk, you can stroll from Willemstad directly to Fort Beekenburg. Begin at the Queen Emma Bridge and head southeast along the waterfront. Follow the coastline towards Jan Thiel, taking in the views as you walk. This route will take approximately 1.5 hours, but be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring water. As you get closer to Jan Thiel, look for signs pointing to the Caracasbaai docks where Fort Beekenburg is located.
Taxi or Rideshare
For a more direct route, you can hail a taxi from anywhere in Willemstad. Provide the driver with the address: 'Caracasbaai old docks, Jan Thiel'. The journey will take about 15-20 minutes depending on traffic. Alternatively, you can use rideshare apps if available, which operate similarly to taxis. Once you arrive, the fort will be within walking distance.
