Discover more about Landhuis Bloemhof cultural center

Landhuis Bloemhof, meaning 'flower garden' in Dutch, invites visitors to immerse themselves in Curaçao's rich cultural heritage. Originally built in 1735 as Landhuis Nooitgedacht, this former plantation house has transformed into a dynamic hub for art, history, and nature enthusiasts. The estate's transformation began in the 20th century when it became the home of May Henriquez, a renowned sculptor and writer. Henriquez opened her home to the local art scene, turning it into a meeting place for artists, musicians, and cultural promoters. Today, Landhuis Bloemhof is dedicated to her memory, preserving her studio in its original condition and showcasing her work alongside contemporary exhibitions by local and international artists. Visitors can explore the main house, adorned with antique furniture, and wander through the adjacent wing, which once housed stables and barns. This wing now features the Ex Libris May-Max Library, an archive and reading room dedicated to the arts, theater, and Papiamentu literature. The estate also boasts a large garden, a bathhouse, and the Cathedral of Thorns, a monumental artwork constructed from millions of thorn bushes. The 'mondi' trail offers a chance to discover the local flora and fauna. Landhuis Bloemhof offers a diverse range of experiences, including art exhibitions, workshops, lectures, and guided tours. Visitors can also relax and enjoy the tranquil ambiance of the gardens, with benches and tables for painting, reading, or simply unwinding.
