Discover more about Caledonian Waterfall

Caledonian Waterfall, also known as Kalidonia Waterfalls, is a captivating natural attraction nestled in the Troodos Mountains, approximately 2 kilometers north of Pano Platres village. The waterfall derives its name from a Scottish expedition in 1878 who were reminded of Scotland, historically known as Caledonia, due to the area's beauty. The waterfall itself is one of the highest in Cyprus, with water cascading down from a height of 12 meters. The surrounding area is covered in lush forest, offering a cool and shady escape, especially welcome during the hot summer months. The air is filled with the refreshing scent of pine and the soothing sound of birdsong, creating an immersive natural experience. There are several routes to reach the waterfall, catering to different fitness levels. The main trail is about 3km long and can take 1.5 to 2 hours to complete. The trail winds through the forest, following the Kryos Potamos stream, and involves some uphill hiking over uneven terrain with rocks, roots and small streams. For a shorter and easier walk, there's an alternative 20-minute path from Aedonion road, near the Psilo Dendro trout farm. Once at the waterfall, visitors can relax by the shaded freshwater pool and even take a paddle. The rocky parts of the trail can be slippery, especially after wet weather, so hiking boots are recommended.
