Discover more about Caledonian Waterfall

The Caledonian Waterfall, also known as Kalidonia Waterfalls, is a captivating natural attraction nestled in the Troodos Mountains, approximately 2 kilometers north of Pano Platres village. The waterfall gets its name from a Scottish expedition in 1878, whose members were struck by its resemblance to the landscapes of Scotland, historically known as Caledonia. The waterfall itself is one of the highest in Cyprus, with water cascading down from a height of 12 meters. The surrounding area is covered in lush forest, offering a cool and refreshing escape, especially during the hot summer months. The air is filled with the scent of pine and the sound of birdsong, creating an immersive natural experience. The journey to the waterfall is a highlight, with several trails of varying difficulty and length. The most popular route is a 3km hiking trail that starts near Platres village and follows the Kryos Potamos stream. This trail meanders through a scenic forest, crossing the stream over small bridges and navigating rocky sections. The hike generally takes around 1.5 to 2 hours. For a shorter, less strenuous walk, an alternative path from Aedonion road, near a trout farm, leads directly to the waterfall in about 20 minutes. Visitors can relax by the shaded freshwater pool at the base of the falls. The rocky parts of the trail can be slippery, especially after wet weather, so hiking boots are recommended.
